A few days ago, I was participating in an exercise class.  As I looked around the room, I saw many enthusiastic people and a very cheerful and upbeat instructor performing exercises in a nicely setup studio. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. I signed up for the class because I knew it was good for my self-care routine and I needed to decompress from a busy and stressful week.  Logically, I should have been enjoying every moment.  However, on a deeper level, something did not resonate with me.  It took me a few minutes to realize that I was not taking care of my moon.  My moon was craving a long session on a yoga mat that included a flow of bellowed asanas, time in the nature with my dogs, a warm cup of herbal tea and a couple of hours of creative time with some good music in my art studio.

When I look at client charts, the first thing I notice is their moon placement. Pop astrology made sun signs popular.  Many magazines, newspapers and websites provide a brief daily, weekly, or monthly forecast based on our Sun.  However, in my opinion, moon is so much more important.  It is the deepest part of us, our ingrained self-preservation, habits, routines, how we take care of ourselves and how we care for others.  Over the years, many people offered their advice to me on how I should take care of myself when I need to decompress.  The advice included running on a treadmill, swimming, dancing, cycling, going for acupuncture, cooking, baking, knitting, and the list goes on. I realize now that they were talking from perspectives of their own moon placements.  While there are many good steps we could add to our daily self-care routine, at the end of the day, we should consider our natal moon placement and take care of it through what it craves the most.  All of us could benefit from slowing down in this hectic modern world, listen a little more to our bodies and the wisdom they carry.  And, if we listen very carefully, they will tell us what we need the most to restore and heal.

Everyone has the moon placement somewhere in their chart.  There are 12 different types of moons out there, one for each sign of zodiac. So, there is much to talk about. For this month I want to focus on the moon placements in water signs – Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.  By nature, these signs are more sensitive and emotional than others and they have a strong need for presence of water element in their daily lives.  This could be a trip to the beach, swimming in a pool, or taking a bath, as a part of their self-care routine. All three signs are also very intuitive and creative.  However, how they take care of their moon and themselves is a little different from sign to sign.

Cancer Moon –

An individual with moon placement in the sign of Cancer is more impacted by moon cycle than any other sign because moon is the ruler of this zodiac sign.  This also applies to the individuals who have Cancer rising or have moon placement in their first house of self.  Emotions, energy levels, and motivation for this individual will change as the moon gains or loses its light.  Home and family are usually very important to Cancerians.  Moon placement in this sign is no exception.  So, when the world gets too much and life becomes stressful these natives may consider simply being at home, spending time with their families, and cooking some nourishing healthy meals to nurture their bodies.  Other activities to consider would include baking and decorating cookies, doing some crafts, tending to an eatable garden, taking a bath or swimming, reading a heartfelt and inspirational book, watching some cooking shows, researching family tree, or writing in a diary.  Cancerian moons should also schedule some daily “me time” to process emotional backlog and to avoid getting too “crabby” with others. 😊 Daily meditation could be used to process building up feelings and emotions and to provide a healthy reset.

Scorpio Moon –

An individual with moon placement in Scorpio feels very deeply and tends to hold on to their feelings and emotions for a very long time. These natives are actually very sensitive, despite their hard shell and stinger.  To take care of themselves, regular detox and purging process on physical and emotional level would be very important for Scorpio moons.  This could be deep cleaning of the living space, specifically, going to the areas of the home that have not been cleaned in a while or looking through storage boxes and purging what is no longer needed, thus, eliminating any waste.  For physical body, it would help to consume detoxifying foods and detox tea on a regular basis to help get rid of various toxins and biproducts of bodily processes. Probiotics are a must. Going to a spa for mud treatment appointment could also help with detox.  For emotional health, regular processing of emotions through meditation or work with a therapist could do wonders.  Other things to consider for Scorpio moons is performing research on a topic that bothers them, reading a good detective novel, watching a psychological thriller, processing emotions through creative work, taking a bath with salts, spending time alone contemplating what is bothering them, working in the garden tilling the soil, finding someone to help who is worse off, or work in the frontlines to solve real problems.

Pisces Moon-

An individual with moon placement in Pisces tends to be porous to the emotions of the rest of the world.  Emotional boundaries for this native are erased and they may struggle to know where emotions of others’ end and their own emotions begin.  Spending some time alone would be very helpful for individuals with this moon placement.  They are very kindhearted and compassionate by nature and tend to inadvertently invite others into their lives who may take advantage of them.  So, practicing boundaries with others on a regular basis is an important self-care regimen.  Other things to consider is having a healthy immune- building diet (primarily plant-based), trips to the ocean or other source of water to wash off unwanted emotions, Epsom salt bath, listening to uplifting music, writing poetry, working with watercolors or other creative avenues, taking things to charity, spiritual work, daydreaming, quiet contemplation, and meditation.  For meditation, it may help to imagine floating in the ocean and emotions washing over you like water and dissipating into abyss.  When these individuals feel overwhelmed by the world, it helps to find something grounding to do such as tending to a garden or going for a walk to reconnect with nature and the present.

October 2024 Transits

October seems to be more or less a balanced month in terms of transits. Apart from a few, most of the aspects seem to be manageable.  Transits described below may feel more impactful if you have personal planets at the listed degrees (plus or minus a couple of degrees) in your natal chart.  You can obtain a free copy of your natal chart from astro-seek.com.

October 1: Sun conjunct Mercury (8 degrees Libra) – This is a good day to take an opportunity to make your point, especially in the areas of life where you have Gemini and Virgo.  You may also be inclined to talk more than usual.  Good day to take care of routine paperwork, start a new business venture or simply make plans.  When Sun conjuncts Mercury, it is like having an ear of a king, at last. 😊

Mars trines Saturn (14 degrees Cander and Pisces) -This is a great transit to plan and execute challenging projects.  Saturn provides us with clear practical thinking and planning and Mars gives us some stamina to complete the work. Saturnian discipline and practicality will also help you to avoid intense arguments and forsake ego for sensibility.

October 4:  Venus trines Saturn (14 degrees Scorpio and Pisces)-This is the easiest of all Venus/ Saturn transits.  During this transit you may find comfort in stable and reliable relationships with your partner, finances, and friends.  New relationships starting under this transit are likely to withstand the test of time. However, Saturn takes romance out of these.  So, the nature of the relationships may be more sensible by nature.  If you are dealing with financial situations today, you are likely to make conservative and practical decisions.

October 5-6: Mercury square Mars (16 degrees Libra and Cancer)-These couple of days could be challenging.  What others say may just irritate you.  You may want to walk away from a conflict today as it is hard to manage what Mars may cause you to burst out loud to another person.  Mars could also make us prone to accidents as it lacks patience.  So, the best thing is to slow down.  Also, if you don’t have anything nice to say, just walk away or don’t say anything, so, not to have later regrets.  Mars muddles our thoughts with our egos.

October 7-9: Venus trine Mars  (16 degrees Scorpio and Cancer)-This is a good transit to finally get involved with what you are passionate about.  Venusian diplomacy and Martian drive will help you to get things accomplished.  This is also a great day to put efforts into artistic endeavors, you may be very happy with the result.

October 12-15: Sun square Mars (19 degrees Libra and Cancer) –  These couple of days may bring some ego clashes for you or you may feel as if others are out to get you.  So, unconsciously, you may be prepared for a fight, where there is none needed, especially with people in authority positions. Your energy levels are higher than normal as well; so, be mindful of not overdoing things during these few days.  Look for physical outlets to let your frustrations out through some form of exercise or garden work, for instance.  You can accomplish a great deal if you stream your energy in the right direction.

October 13: Mercury square Pluto (29 degrees Libra and Capricorn) – Try keeping an open mind for these couple of days and not get obsessed with an idea or a thought.  Also, do not force your point of view on others as it may not be well received and cause you some frustration. This is a great transit for introspective thinking and psychological insights into yourself. Use this transit wisely to study things like psychology.  Or, just read a great detective novel to make your Pluto happy.

October 13-14:  Sun trine Jupiter (21 degrees Libra and Gemini)– This is a very positive transit which would enable you to accomplish something great for yourself.   In general, you may feel more at ease and in harmony with others.  Your internal optimism during this transit would help you to accomplish a great deal, if you are so inclined, and improve areas of your life that need your attention.  This could be the transit that helps you to finally let go of things or ideas that no longer serve your highest good. Now you are able to see a bigger picture.

October 14-15:  Venus opposite Uranus (26 degrees Scorpio and Taurus)During this transit you may seek out stimulating and interesting experiences. Do something outside of your norm to break down the routine. You may seek freedom from the existing relationship restrictions while this transit takes place. Instead of focusing on your relationships and finding what does not work in them, spend time looking into off-beat forms of entertainment.  This may satisfy your cravings for the unusual.

October 15-16: Venus Trine Neptune (27 degrees Scorpio and Pisces)-This is a good transit but makes it difficult to get mundane things done.  This is a wonderful day for creative thinking, enjoying art, music and nature. This transit may also raise feelings of compassion and spirituality and connecting with others on soul-level.

October 17: Venus sextile Pluto (29 degrees Scorpio and Capricorn)– Pluto Venus transits usually bring some intensity into our relationships.  However, changes that this transit brings are usually needed and good for the relationship’s health and longevity.  This transit may seem challenging if you like stability.  However, sometimes change and transformation is needed to create the new normal.  Try not to overthink things and just go with the flow.

October 22-23:  Sun square Pluto (29 degrees Libra and Capricorn) – These couple of days may feel stressful.  You may feel opposition to pressure exerted on you by people in power.   You may also feel a need to start radical changes in the areas of your life that do not work well anymore.  This is a good transit to release outmoded patterns of thinking or routines and make some room for positive and creative changes in your life.

Mercury trine Saturn (13 degrees Scorpio and Pisces) – this is a good day to do some serious thinking and perform tasks that are mundane but require discipline and precision. This is also a good day to get yourself organized administratively, respond to backlog of correspondence and emails.  You may feel that being by yourself with your thoughts is a little easier for these couple of days than dealing with the others.

October 23-26: Mars sextile Uranus (26-27 degrees Cancer and Taurus) – This transit makes you feel rather restless. You may have an urge to look for new experiences and make some changes to your daily routines. You may also feel more impulsive; however, this could be exactly what you need to break out of the rut. Fresh viewpoints may come up for you and you may gain a different perspective on old routines/ thoughts. Try something new under this transit.

October 26-30: Mars trine Neptune (26-27 degrees Cancer and Pisces)– This transit allows us to look at the world with more compassion and sensitivity as Martian ego is not in the way.  Working with others and helping them may give you a sense of satisfaction. These are good few days to participate in charity work, meditate, and do yoga rather than vigorous exercise.  Neptune tends to dampen our stamina.

October 28: Venus square Saturn (12 degrees Sagittarius and Pisces)During this transit, you may feel more reserved than usual towards others.  You may want to re-examine your values and friends and think of what is important to you.  This is not a good day to have financial dealings as they may result in a loss.  Saturn may also make us feel isolated and unloved and dissatisfied with our relationships or possessions.  However, this is only temporary.

October 30-31: Mercury opposes Uranus (26 degrees Scorpio and Taurus) – You may feel a bit on the edge for a couple of days and scattered.  While Uranus provides us with many great insights, it tends to speed up things and create frustration because others are too slow to follow.  Wait to implement your great ideas after the transit is over. This transit is not great for discipline and precision.  Also, not every idea will withstand the test of time, though many will.  Uranus rules mathematics, science, and astrology and this is a good transit to study these subjects, if you are so inclined.

October 31: Mercury trines Neptune (26-27 degrees Scorpio and Pisces)-This is a great transit to stimulate your creativity and imagination. Mysticism and spiritual topics may become of interest to you at this time.  Take a breather today and give yourself permission to just relax and enjoy a good book and beautiful music.  Your chores can wait till tomorrow!
