Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga

MARCH 18th, 3:00-5:00 PM

Please join us for an introduction workshop to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga taught by Brice Elizabeth Watson, practicing Ashtangi and student of KPJAYI in Mysore, India.

Ashtanga is a lineage based practice (parampara), with the focus of using the asanas (postures) to control the mind and create a spiritually based practice (sadhana). There are 6 series in the Ashtanga practice. The student does not move forward until given the go ahead by the his or her teacher. This creates a mandala to control the thoughts of the mind and allows the alchemy of the sequencing of the postures to heal the body and purify karma or action created by stress, created by thoughts. At the workshop we will go over the beginning of primary series, talk about how it relates to yoga scripture, and have a question and answer time with Brice. For more information on Ashtanga please visit the KPJAYI website. For more information on Brice please find her on Instagram @briceyogaashtanga.

*This workshop is part of SGY’s Yoga of the Heart, teacher training program.
